Costa Rica II

In Costa Rica by Eller Student

July 12th, 2011

Recap of the things I’ve done since I posted my first blog: More beach time and sightseeing, horseback riding, zip lining, repelling, nightlife, soccer games, and plenty of intern work.

My time in Costa Rica has been flying by. I have three more weeks left to enjoy in the tropics before I’m back in the AZ heat. At this point, I have adapted to the “Tico” lifestyle very well. I feel at home with my host family and I enjoy the time we spend together. Almost every weeknight after eating dinner we gather around the TV to watch a soccer game. I have become very good friends with the rest of the interns. We’re a very unique and compatible bunch.

My internship overall has been successful, although I still struggle to get up in the mornings for 9-hour day shifts. I have independently worked on multiple projects and I’ve been getting positive feedback from my boss.  I am definitely getting a taste of the corporate world.

This past weekend we went to a canopy tour. It was literally an adventure in the middle of the rain forest. We took a 45 minute horseback ride through a very green landscape to get to the zip lining site. It was my first time zip lining and I did not know what to expect. Once I was safely strapped in the gear, I took a hold of the rope with one hand, and took a step forward. It was exhilarating! I was soaring meters above the ground at a quick speed! After about 20 ropes, 2 repelling experiences, and a refreshing swim in a waterfall we were ready to call it a day. We concluded the adventure with a delicious meal and headed to the beach afterwards for some “relax time”.

I am appreciating every moment in Costa Rica and I can’t wait to discover more of what this country has to offer. The plans for this weekend are to stay in the city and go bungee jumping off an 80 meter (265 ft) high bridge!!!
