First Experiences

In Spain by Eller Student

When I first arrved in Barcelona I was overwhelmed by the vast amounts of people, buildings, restaurants, and shops the city offered. I thought I would never be able to get around the city alone or get to know the area.

I have quickly become accustomed to the lifestyle in Barcelona and the city. In the short amount of time I have been here I have learned how to use the metro and train stations and get from place to place by myself. We live at the University of Barcelona Autonoma which is about 25 to 30 minutes outside of the city. It is beautiful and is surrounded by trees and mountains.

I have also started my internship and have been working for my company for about 2.5 weeks. I work for the Johan Cruyff Institute for Sport Studys and I love it. I have been doing a lot of market research for them as well as translating things for them from spanish to english so they can launch their company in English speaking countries. I love that I get to practice my spanish and get experience in the business world. The CEO of the company is also very famous in spain. He won MVP of European soccer three times and was voted the number one soccer player of the century. He also coached FC Barcelona and is currently the manager of the Catalonia National Team. I had never really been into soccer until I moved here. The people of Barcelona live and breath for this sport. The only T.V. I have watched since I came here has been soccer and I love it.

My first few weeks here have been amazing. I am learning so much and seeing so much. Our group has already seen the ¨top 10¨places to visit while in Barcelona. I cannot even imagine what else there is to see and what else I will experience my next month and a half here. I love everything about this city and already get sad when I think about having to leave.
