In England by Eller Student

This trip is flying by, I can’t believe there are only two weeks left! These past few weeks have been super busy and packed full of fun activities. With class, we got to go on a field trip to Brick Lane where we ate Indian food last week. It is so much fun walking down the street there because it is lined with restaurant after restaurant of authentic Indian food and it all smells so good. The place we went was delicious and offered up a buffet of different dishes to try. It was a great way to experience all the different options available and experience this huge part of British culture! I love the wide variety of food offered in London and how it seems to be a lot of individually owned restaurants instead of chains. It makes the food seem much more authentic and fresh than at home. Another thing I’ve noticed here is that food is not really sold in bulk and much of it is purchased the day that you intend to use it. I stop by the grocery store almost everyday to pick up some fruit or grab something for dinner, which is so different from what I’m used to in America. A lot of foods are called by different names here as well, which can definitely lead to some confusion. For example chips are fries and crisps are chips, biscuits are cookies, and porridge is oatmeal. You have to be careful what you say when ordering at a restaurant to make sure you end up with what you want! One of my favorite restaurants we’ve been to is one we just went to last night. It was an Italian restaurant and is known for having been Princess Diana’s favorite. The food was wonderful! Everything was freshly made and genuine Italian, nothing like Olive Garden. We definitely want to go back there before we leave London! With our last two weeks, I’m sure we will be going back and revisiting all of our favorite places before we have to leave them for good. I am definitely not ready for that time to come though and am excited for the remainder of the time that I have here!
