A Day in the Life by Rebecca Durazo

In Spain by Eller Student

For my internship, I am working with a local Barcelonan designer who owns a small boutique in el Barrio Born (one of Barcelona’s more high-end neighborhoods).  Because I work in a boutique, my hours are different from some of the other interns.  I leave for work a little before 10am to make it in time to open the shop at 11am. I then work until 3pm doing research and designing web content on my laptop while sitting at the boutique’s front desk.  I really like this atmosphere because I get to talk to clients (about 50% local and 50% international tourists) while doing my work instead of sitting at a more traditional desk in an office.

My research is very diverse which helps keep the job interesting.  I research the products designed and created by Mertxe and develop marketing content accordingly.  Additionally, a majority of my research consists of studying other fashion designers (which means spending hours watching runway shows and investigating new collections from some of the biggest designers-what more could a girl ask for?!).  Furthermore, I have done some research on the area to promote visiting and shopping in el Barrio Born.  This neighborhood is home to many fabulous boutiques, excellent food, and beautiful museums (including el Museu Picasso!).  It’s nice that I can research places I want to visit during my time here while accomplishing something of value at work!  Overall, while it has taken some time to get used to the Barcelonan work culture, I am really enjoying the work I am doing at M T X Mertxe Hernández.
