Sports Impact- PR and MKTG- Entry 1

Coming to the United Kingdom to participate, and grow in an international internship in the field of public relations and marketing, I had little idea of what to expect. I had little experience in the industry; however, it was relieving to discover the initial interview process was fairly straightforward. The supervisor/CEO of Sports Impact made it very clear to me in the interview what my tasks would be, describing to me the business strategy the company practices in order to create value for clients. On my first day, the supervisor gave me the task to create three marketing strategies which would be presented to La Manga Hotel Club and Resort in Spain for an RFP. This task seemed difficult to me having little knowledge of La Manga, but also served as a fulfilling learning experience. The next day, I was asked to measure brand awareness by surfing magazines for editorial placement of our client’s brands names and images.  This task was simple; yet, it taught me how to measure the effectiveness of our company’s PR skills, and ultimately serve to justify the credibility of Sports Impact in the PR industry to our current and potential clients. The final task I was asked to complete was to outline a Paul Lawrie fact file for press release referencing at the upcoming Major British Open. I enjoyed each of these three tasks, and each taught me a little more about the industry I hope to work in when I return home. I look forward to the upcoming seven weeks, in which the knowledge I learn about the PR and marketing industry will serve as stepping stones to the start of my career.
