Learning the Tracks

In China by Eller Student

As you can see in the photo above, choosing the right horse takes focus….. and more than a little bit of luck.  Last week, our program visited the horse tracks.  Horse racing is one of the most celebrated events in Hong Kong and always draws massive crowds.  It’s labeled as the thing to do on a Wednesday evening or a Sunday morning. To put it in perspective, for a second straight year the amount of money wagered on horses exceeded that of all of Las Vegas.

However, unlike Vegas, the Hong Kong Jockey club is a non-profit.  All of the proceeds are donated to charity at the end of the year.  It is a truly great program that allows charities to raise billions of dollars from those who were willing gamble with it.  All in all, I had a phenomenal time at the tracks and would highly recommend it for a wednesday evening.
