Weekend Adventures

In China by Eller Student

Being in Hong Kong, you are only a short plane ride away from Thailand, Mainland China, the Philippines, and Taiwan. I highly recommend that you take advantage of your weekends and use them to travel outside of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong people themselves are all worldly travelers, and even mentioning to your co-workers that you plan to go to Bali for the weekend has them instantly gushing about trying select new restaurants and visiting local beaches.

I had the opportunity to go to Beijing for a long weekend, and definitely made the most of my time there by packing my days full of tours. In the end it was completely worth it! I got to see Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, the Panda House, the Lama Temple, the Confucian Temple, go on a Hutong rickshaw tour, see the Drum Tower, go shopping in Nanluoguxiang, enjoy a traditional tea ceremony, try Peking duck, see a Kung Fu show, hike the Great Wall, visit the Jade Factory, and visit the Olympic Park all in three days!

Make the most of your weekends here, your time is extremely limited! If traveling outside of Hong Kong doesn’t interest you, there is plenty to do locally as well such as visiting neighboring islands, checking out local temples, and spending your remaining money at the hundreds of high end shopping malls. Whatever it is that you like to do, I guarantee you can find it here in Hong Kong…and if not you’re only a short plane ride away from it!
