My Expectations for Barcelona

In Spain by Eller Student

Ashlee Thorpe, General Studies

As I sit here trying to put into words what I am feeling, I find myself completely stumped. I am anxious and excited, and a little nervous. While I have known about this trip for quite some time, it still hasn’t hit me yet. To be honest I don’t think it will until I say goodbye to my family and take a seat on that plane I will be on for 11 hours. I am thrilled to be immersed in a different culture for the next two months and to soak up every experience and relationship that comes my way.

When thinking about this amazing adventure I am about to embark on there is only one quote that comes to mind, “Participate don’t anticipate.” I have no idea what to expect, however I plan to immerse myself fully in everything that is thrown my way. I have always been somewhat of a homebody so this adventure is truly one that is outside my comfort zone. I want to push myself outside of my comfort zone with every opportunity I have.  I am truly blessed to have this chance and I want to make the best of it. I am excited to meet new people and experience a social life so different than the one I am used to. I want to try new things, learn new things, meet new people and try to travel as much as possible.

This summer I will be working for BIWPA | Barcelona International Water Polo Academy. Even though my knowledge of the internship is limited, I love the fact that I will be learning something new that I was previously unfamiliar with and I will be able to take away many different business and life experiences. I know this will help me in my post collegiate career.

It is crazy to me to think that in only 5 days my European Adventure will begin. I can’t wait to see what is in store for me.
