Sanjay Ramiah, Pre-Business
Upon reaching Barcelona I thought I had a pretty good understanding of how things were going to be. I have travelled before and I wasn’t expecting the extreme culture shock. Life is completely different here in Spain than anything I had ever witnessed before.
Everything is different from the food, to the language, to the work culture. Upon reaching Barcelona I was pushed into an area where I didn’t speak the language and had to completely adapt my way of life. The first few days went by in a blur, as there were so many new, different things going on. I met so many new people and got my first taste of the city of Barcelona. The city is one of the prettiest and grand places that I have ever seen. The streets are full of color and the gaudi architecture exceeded my wildest expectations.
Time in Barcelona does not exist like it does in the states. Here in Barcelona I work till 2 pm, take a siesta and then go out until the wee hours of the morning. Everything closes early and the entire atmosphere is much more jovial and relaxed.
The first few days I felt like I was out of place and lost but each day I feel more and more comfortable. I love exploring different parts of the city and fully immersing myself in the culture. This is an amazing opportunity and I am looking forward to the coming weeks.
