Culture Shock/adjustments

In Spain by Eller Student

Matthew Reineberg, Marketing

After living in and getting acclimated to Barcelona over these last two weeks, I feel like I’ve adjusted well to the local culture. At first there were differences I did not expect, such as the predominant use of Catalan over Spanish. I know a little Spanish but no Catalan. At times, this has made communication difficult for me. Other differences I did expect and have adjusted to such as the local food. I am learning what I like to eat and what I don’t. Also the timing of lunch and dinner are much later than they are back home in the United States. So far it has been a great start to the summer and look forward to the rest of the trip.
